UPDATE: Thanksgiving Weekend in Avalon Promises to Delight

– Due to the forecasted inclement weather on Saturday, Avalon is moving events scheduled for Snowfest Saturday, November 24 to Friday, November 23 to join Festive Friday activities for a bigger, better day of fun!

AVALON – Start a new family tradition and bring the gang to Avalon for Thanksgiving. Aside from the turkey dinner and the coastal views, Avalon is planning a spectacular weekend featuring family-fun activities for all ages.

Start the weekend early and stop by Festival of Trees on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at The Whitebrier, 260 20th St. Starting at 5pm, enjoy a cocktail and browse more than 40 Christmas trees and wreaths, all decorated by local businesses and available for bidding. The Festival of Trees will continue on Friday, Nov. 24 from noon to 8 p.m., after which winners can pick up their trees and wreaths.

A great way to start the day after Thanksgiving is to participate in the sixth annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1.5-Mile Walk. The run, starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, will benefit the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children. The event takes runners and walkers alike on a tour of the north end of Avalon, and is perfect for burning those turkey calories.

Following the Turkey Trot, enjoy Festive Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 50 activities are scheduled throughout Avalon including a number of character meet-and-greets, face painting, balloons, holiday crafts and even a ride on the Polar Express train! Events are held in front of businesses throughout the day, so be sure to pick up a full schedule of activities and set aside time for the iceless ice-skating rink at 21st Street and Dune Drive. Clear the streets and make way as Santa Claus himself arrives to Avalon promptly at 5 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, including more character meet-and-greets, music and even extended ice-skating hours through 8 p.m.!

Rise and shine on Saturday, Nov. 25 and enjoy the return of Snowfest Saturday. Multiple frosted festival events will be set and ready to entertain the entire family: Race along the Polar Extreme obstacle course, travel down the North Woods Toboggan Slide and challenge a friend on the Mount Avalon Rock Wall! New for this year, enjoy the holiday tunes of The Marinos, a live holiday band performing on 26th Street with a number of kid-friendly performances in between including Family Frozen Sing-along, a dance party with the mouse and friends and a holiday elf celebration. There will be live music and entertainment all day.

And throughout the weekend, be sure to enjoy the sales and shopping from Avalon’s many retail stores and boutiques. Avalon’s businesses are open and stocked full of great holiday shopping items, so grab your list, check it twice and shop ‘til you drop!

With so much to do throughout the weekend, planning is a necessity! Grab a full schedule of activities at any business in Avalon or at www.visitavalonnj.com. Happy holidays to all!
