Even on a rainy day, there is still plenty to do in Cape May County. Touring different museums around the area can keep you busy for a full day, and there are always things that you can bring the kids too that they will enjoy.
The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum
This is a nonprofit museum that is located at the Cape May Airport inside historic Hangar #1. The museum invites all visitors to see a number of aircrafts, engines, special exhibits, and there are also educational interactive displays for the kids. Explore history through some hands-on fun and educational activities that the whole family is guaranteed to enjoy! There is also an area with 92,000 square feet dedicated to the 1940s. Make sure to bring your camera because the kids will be all smiles. They are open daily 9 am to 5 pm.
The Emlen Physick Estate
Take a look at an old Victorian home and notice the beautiful architecture, decorative arts, the customs and learn about one family’s life in particular – the Physicks. Emlen Physick Jr., his mother Frances Ralston (who was a widow), and his maiden Aunt Emilie Parmentier moved into this home in 1879 when it was first built. Emlen was a medical school graduate but never practiced medicine. Instead, he was a farmer and owned and operated his own farms. This home illustrates the dramatic change from Victorian times to now and shows the Victorian lifestyle that Cape May once saw.
The Boyer Museum
This museum has been around for 50 years now and is filled with history and memories of the Wildwoods. There is valuable information for everyone at this museum and it will make you feel like you are walking through time as you enter each room filled with interesting artifacts. One of the many amazing things about this museum is that if you have had ancestors who have lived in Wildwood you may be able to look up their houses to see what they looked like then. Also, if you had an ancestor that was a lifeguard in Wildwood, you may be able to find a picture of them too! The fun never stops at this museum and it is a very interesting educational experience for the whole family. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. Come meet the friendly staff and enjoy a rainy day inside. Donations are greatly appreciated!
