Drink of the Week: The Baja

mayer

This week’s featured drink is an extremely refreshing cocktail with citrus flavors and a little bit of heat. Enjoy Mayer’s Tavern’s “drink of the summer” and this week’s drink of the week, The Baja!

The Baja is the perfect blend of tequila, spicy jalapenos, fresh cucumbers, sweet agave, and lemon juice. To make the drink, manager Joanie muddled cucumber, jalapeno, and agave syrup to release the flavors of the fresh ingredients. Next, she added ice to the shaker with tequila blanco, St. Germain, and a shot of lemon juice. After a few shakes, she poured the drink into a glass, garnished with a cucumber slice, and it was ready to be served! The cool cucumbers perfectly balance the kick from the jalapenos, so we completely understand why this is the most popular drink at Mayer’s this summer!

Mayer’s Tavern is a Cape May classic, updated in 2016 by Keith & Alex Laudeman. The tavern quickly became a favorite for locals and vacationers because of the unique atmosphere and amazing meals made with locally sourced ingredients. The menu offers guests fresh, straight-off-the-boat seafood; great handmade cocktails; and decadent seasonal desserts. The Philadelphia Inquirer named the fried scallops one of their “Best Meals of 2018,” so they are a must-have when you go for dinner. Choose from small plates of fried local calamari and broiled oysters with pimento cheese, then order the famous fried scallops or fried Ipswich clams. The menu changes with availability (and inspiration), so stop by Mayer’s for dinner to try their incredible dishes for yourself! Mayer’s Tavern is located in Cape May and open daily at 5 p.m., closed Tuesday.
