The Zombie Mud Run “Haunts” Morey’s Piers

The Wildwoods, NJ – This October, a zombie apocalypse is taking over the boardwalk of Wildwoods, NJ. On October 12, 2013, Morey’s Piers, along with co-sponsors the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority and the City of Wildwood, is hosting The Zombie Mud Run for the first time ever.

Taking place along the beach and piers, the thrilling 5K obstacle race challenges runners to eat or be eaten as they hurdle obstacles including huge sand mounds, the ocean, slides and “quicksand.” Participants are invited to register as either a “Human,” with the mission to save the human race by escaping the living dead, or as a “Zombie,” who will “hunt” the “Human” runners adding an extra degree of challenge to the race.

“We are creating an awesome course that that will be a combination of both natural and manmade obstacles, designed to test strength and endurance,” said Patrick Konopelski, founder of The Zombie Mud Run. “Now for the scary part – the course will take you under the boardwalk to the deep, dark, recesses of the unknown… chills!”

“Zombies have become such a big part of today’s pop culture with fans of all ages. We’re thrilled to welcome this new audience of both the living…and the not so living…to Morey’s Piers,” added Jack Morey, second-generation owner of Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks.

During the race, “Humans” will wear a flag football belt with three flags, representing their vital organs, which “Zombies” will try to “eat” by capturing the flags. Whether you survive or get infected, everyone is welcome to join the fun at the all day human survival beach party which features music, and a variety of food and beverages available for purchase.

To participate as a “Human” or “Zombie,” runners must be at least 14 years of age or older and pre-register at www.thezombiemudrun.com. The price of registration ranges from $35 to $105 depending on the running category and date of registry. Special student and military pricing is available for $55. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the ALS Greater Philadelphia Association and the Lunch With Lynch Program.

The gates open at 7 am with race times starting every 30 minutes from 9 am to 2 pm. For more information, please visit www.moreyspiers.com.
