Sand Barrens Golf Club, Cape May Courthouse, NJ, has announced the start of a new and unique plan to encourage more women to take up the game of golf. The program, titled Sip & Chip, combines free hands‐on lessons from the Sand Barrens Professional Golf Staff, with guided play on several holes to build upon and reinforce the skills and allow the beginning golfers to develop their confidence in an environment free from judgement and pressure. Following the lesson and play, the participants will return to the Clubhouse to discuss their day over glasses of wine in a friendly and social setting. The goal is to create an environment of mutual support and encouragement as the participants work on improving their skills.
The program is offered free to any beginner‐level woman interested in learning the game and developing the skills needed to play at a level that will allow them to successfully navigate the a golf course.
The first session will meet on Sunday, July 19, with hands‐on lessons from one of the Golf Professionals from 1 to 2:30 p.m. after which the participants will return to the clubhouse for some complimentary wine and discussion on that they have learned. On the following Sunday, July 26, participants will again meet at 1 p.m. for some follow‐up lessons to bolster their confidence, followed by three holes played under the guidance of the professional staff . Again this session will be followed by an informal social gathering to recap the play.
After these two initial sessions, the women are welcome to return every Tuesday in August after 4 p.m. to play nine holes at a special rate. These holes will set aside specifically for the beginner women golfers to continue to hone their skills in a relaxed and pressure‐free environment and will be closed to the membership and general public.
