Mixology 101: Drink of the Week

With its cool second floor deck bar and awesome views of Otten’s Harbor, Ice House Bar nd Restaurant has become Wildwood’s preferred destination for a cold cocktail. On “Two Buck Chuck” Tuesdays, Ice House patrons flock to the roof deck’s 20-plus seat bar for $2 appetizers and $2 bottled drafts and well drinks. In this week’s quest to crown drink of the week, I decided to see for myself what all the Ice House buzz was about.

The taste test started with bartender Brian McGuire’s specialty, the refreshing Ice House Iced Tea Mojito. Recommended as the perfect post-beach afternoon cocktail, the Iced Tea Mojito is made with the freshest mint leaves, which are hand ground into the drink by a friendly Ice House bartender. A master never reveals his secrets, and this was surely the case with McGuire’s prized mojito creation. Though its exact recipe remains a mystery, this cocktail quickly became one of my all-time favorites. The ground mint leaves give it a refreshing kick while the iced tea serves as an excellent thirst quencher.

With the afternoon drink of the week easily decided, Ice House decided to propose an evening cocktail winner as well. Skip dessert and instead opt for the rich Ice House Supersonic Chocolate Martini. Made with Kahlua, Bailey’s, and Absolut Vanilla, this sweet concoction is served in a chilled martini glass that is first drizzled with Hershey’s Chocolate syrup. An adult upgrade on classic chocolate milk, the Supersonic Chocolate Martini is the perfectly strong treat to take the edge off.
