January at Belleplain: Not Too Cold to Hike! 

Belleplain State Forest, which spans both Cape May and Atlantic counties, is a beautiful slice of the New Jersey pinelands with year-round camping, great hiking trails, and lots of events to help you stay active even in the chilly winter months. Here are the events happening in January at the forest:  

Thursday Trails 

Thursday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. 

Meet at the Nature Center by Lake Nummy 

Join a park employee for a guided walk around the forest! Meet at 10 a.m. sharp and be ready to walk between 2 and 3 miles on mostly flat terrain. Dress for the weather, and come with eyes open for the great outdoors!  

Full Moon Hike 

Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.  

Meet at the Park Office, 1 Henkinsifkin Road, Woodbine 

Meet at the park office, which has free parking, to begin a 2.5 mile hike under January’s “wolf” moon! Dogs are allowed on a leash. Please, red light flashlights only!  

Pinecone Bird Feeder

Sunday, January 19 from 12 to 2 p.m.  

Park Office, 1 Henkinsifkin Road, Woodbine 

Join Gina at the park office any time between 12 and 2 p.m. to make a pinecone bird feeder. $5 per feeder.

Dog Hike 

Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. 

Meet at the Park Office, 1 Henkinsifkin Road, Woodbine 

Join Gina for a 3 to 4 mile hike with your furry friend! No dog, no problem, come out anyway! Dogs must be leashed, and please bring bags to clean up after your dog.
