This week’s winning cocktail is an original creation by Mulligan’s manager Jon. He stumbled upon the recipe by circumstance and some on-the-spot innovation. Years ago, when tending bar aboard the Queen Mary on the west coast, Jon was bombarded with orders for Apple Martinis. He was suddenly running low on Sour Apple Pucker and needed to improvise in order to keep up with the crowd’s demand for sweet martinis. It was then that the recipe for the Mullitini first struck him. “I had no idea what it would taste like, but it just made sense to me,” he states. The Queen Mary patrons absolutely loved his original martini creation and decided to title it the “Sweet Jon” in his honor. When Jon brought the recipe here to the Wildwoods, he decided to name it as a tribute to Mulligan’s and therefore changed its title to the “Mullitini”. Today, this Mulligan’s signature is a huge hit for those looking for a refreshing, drinkable, yet surprisingly potent summer cocktail. Jon skillfully makes the Mullitini with 1/2 ounce of vodka, 1/2 ounce of triple sec, one ounce Sour Apple Pucker, one ounce Watermelon Pucker, a splash of pineapple juice, orange juice, and grenadine. It is completed with a cherry garnish. Enjoy with caution. “They’ll sneak up on you,” jokes Jon. Yet it’s a challenge to have just one!
