Avalon will be celebrating the Independence Day Weekend in style on July 3rd-4th with a huge fireworks display, patriotic music, and a patriotic boat parade. All events return after a one-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The celebration begins on Saturday, July 3rd with Avalon’s annual patriotic boat parade which begins at 4:00pm. The boat parade will begin at the Avalon Yacht Club and navigate back bay channels, sailing through Cornell Harbor, the west end of Pennsylvania Harbor, and through Princeton Harbor. Boaters are asked to register with the Avalon Department of Recreation, and be in line for the parade no later than 3:45pm.
On Sunday, July 4th, the Bay Atlantic Symphony returns to Avalon, with a new twist. A percussion and brass performance of patriotic music will be staged outside at Avalon’s Surfside Park, at 30th Street and the beach, starting at 7:30pm. Music from George Gershwin, Scott Joplin, “West Side Story”, and others will be performed. Bring a beach chair or a blanket and enjoy the performance.
Immediately after the concert at dusk, Avalon presents a huge fireworks display on Sunday, July 4th, at dusk set to patriotic music. The fireworks will be visible from all beaches in Avalon, and originate off our 30th Street beach. No beach tags are needed, bring a beach chair or a blanket and enjoy the show. The patriotic music for the fireworks will be simulcast on radio station WCZT 98.7FM the Coast.
Throughout the summer, Avalon presents beach movies Tuesday evenings at Dusk, through August 24th. A highlight every summer is “Jaws”, to be shown on August 3rd. Sunday evenings at 7 o’clock, Avalon presents “Sundays at Surfside”, featuring live bands. Highlights this year include “Boy in Black” on August 1st, and “Beatlemania” on August 22nd.
