Celebrate the Eagles This Saturday

… At the Cumberland County Winter Eagle Festival

The wait for the Big Game is kind of excruciating for some Eagles fans, so why not celebrate the actual birds this weekend at the Cumberland County Winter Eagle Festival, Saturday, February 1st from 10 am to 1 pm based at the Maurice River Fire Hall.

A host of southern New Jersey’s leading conservation organizations joins forces to put on this wonderful family-friendly event once a year. Start at the Fire Hall to gain admission, $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under, and visit with representatives from local organizations, including several feathered friends from Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge.

At the top of each hour, an educational program will take place on the other side of the hall, with topics ranging from Bald Eagle recovery to marsh restoration and the secret lives of owls.

Outdoors, you’ll be treated to great views of Bald Eagles in the wild. Your admission includes a detailed map to four or five viewing sites, each of which will be staffed by volunteers from CU Maurice River and/or Cape May Bird Observatory among others.

Recently removed from the Endangered Species list with thanks to folks at New Jersey’s own Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish and Wildlife, Bald Eagles nest along southern New Jersey’s rivers and marshes in good numbers. They start early, and while most may be just shy of incubating eggs, many pairs will be shoring up their often massive nests. They may also be seen fishing in open water as icy conditions give way to flowing water.

The festival also includes guided walks, boutique shopping and food at the Fire Hall. Learn more at Eagle Festival 2025 – Explore Cumberland County.
