Wildwood, N.J. – Celebrating its 20th year, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey’s (UWGPSNJ) Rubber Ducky Regatta is set to make a splash on Sunday, August 18, at Morey’s Piers Mariner’s Landing in Wildwood, starting at 7 pm. During the event, thousands of rubber racing ducks will take to the water for a race around the waterpark to support UWGPSNJ and their work to improve Education, Income and Health in Cape May County. Entry is just $5 and includes a souvenir rubber ducky. Ducks are on sale now at locations throughout the county including Morey’s Piers. More information is available online at www.UnitedforImpact.org/Cape-May.
“This year, we mark a milestone 20th year for our most colorful community fundraiser,” said Joe Murray, UWGPSNJ in Cape May County local operating board president and owner of One Off Marketing. “Not too often do events attain this kind of longevity, but the Rubber Duck Regatta has become that iconic community event that everyone rallies around, all summer-long.”
In its 20 years, the United Way Rubber Duck Regatta has raised a remarkable $500,000 to support vital health and human service programs in Cape May County. It is the county’s largest and longest-running community fundraising event, which draws both support and spectators from throughout the region. Its success is due in large part to a number of area businesses who fund the event through sponsorship, including longtime partner and host, Morey’s Piers. Other sponsors this year include: South Jersey Industries, Crest Savings Bank, McDonald’s, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City, Cape Bank, Atlantic City Electric, 95.1FM WAYV, ShopRite, and The Cape May County Herald Newspapers.
“There are few community events that have the spirit and support of so many as the United Way Rubber Duck Regatta does,” said Will Morey, President of Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Waterparks and Resorts. “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to give back to our community through United Way in such a fun and engaging way. We have many activities planned for this celebratory year, so I invite all to come out to the waterpark on August 18 and support our local community.”
In addition, nearly 50 prizes have been donated by local vendors to accompany the winning ducks, including the top prizes of a ShopRite gift certificate valued at $500 and two custom cruisers from Zippy’s Bikes. Other prizes include season passes to Morey’s Piers, a flat screen television, a spa day at Salon 41, an Atilis Gym membership, and more. A complete listing of prizes is available at www.UnitedforImpact.org/Cape-May. Winners do not need to be present to win during the Regatta.
“This event is only made possible through the extraordinary efforts of many local volunteers,” said John Emge, Executive Director of UWGPSNJ in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. “From sponsorships to selling ducks to race-day volunteers, it’s a remarkable feat that goes a long way in supporting UWGPSNJ’s work to improve Education, Income and Health – the building blocks to a better life for all residents.”
