It isn’t summer in Cape May without great live music, and the John Walter Cape Community Band and its JWB Brass Quintet will once again be adding to the sounds of summer. “I’m happy to bring a new line-up of music to our surrounding audiences in the Cape May Area,” says Dominic Scalfaro, Director of the Band.

“Music Through the Decades” is this summer’s theme, and the concerts will take you on a journey through several decades, with songs of different genres and styles along the way. From ragtime songs like Joplin’s The Entertainer, through the big band era of the 40’-50’s with sounds of Basie, Ellington and Porter, then some upbeat songs from the 70’s with the Village People’s YMCA, and rock tunes from the 80’s including the Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl, and recent pop tunes like a suite from the show, Hamilton. Scalfaro described this musical journey as “a fun toe tapping, hand clapping program, guaranteed to enjoy.”

“I’m excited to bring all this fine music to many different venues this summer and look forward to highlighting some of our young talented high school students in a few different ballads,” continues Scalfaro.

The John Walter Band enjoys having musicians from all backgrounds and age groups and supports the development of young musicians through its Play It Again and Scholarship programs.

The band performs throughout Cape May County and all of the band’s and quintet’s concerts are free and open to the public. For a listing of upcoming performances, visit johnwaltersband.org
