Public Invited to Pop Up Beer Garden Featuring Cape May Brewing Co. at Cape May Lighthouse Aug. 17

CAPE MAY – Spend a summer evening relaxing with friends next to one of the region’s most recognizable historic landmarks, the Cape May Lighthouse, during a Pop Up Beer Garden featuring Cape May Brewing Company on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 4 to 9:30 p.m. This is the second of these fundraising events presented by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) in partnership with Cape May Brewing Company (CMBC) this summer to support MAC’s historic preservation mission.

Stop by the Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Point State Park, 215 Lighthouse Ave., Cape May Point, and stay awhile. Enjoy CMBC beers on tap. Raise a glass to historic preservation! Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Visitors must be 21 years of age or older with valid ID to drink alcoholic beverages.

Purchase a snack or dinner al fresco with Matt’s BBQ and Grill and Hank Sauce on hand. Enjoy live music from two local music groups: Dave Rettinger and The Honey Hawks.

Parking is available on site. Walking and biking are encouraged and pets on a leash are welcome. A free trolley shuttle will run from the Washington Street Mall at Ocean Street in a continuous loop from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Play a lawn game with friends. Bring a beach chair and blanket and relax on the grass in the evening breeze as the stars begin to appear around one of Cape May’s most iconic historic sites.
Climb the 199 steps to the watch gallery for an exciting view of the surrounding area. As you climb, you’ll discover the history and unique features of this 1859 beacon and learn through interpretive panels what life as a Lighthouse Keeper was like, the history of the surrounding area, how the lamp stayed lit prior to electricity, how the lighthouse’s sturdy construction has made it a fortress in the face of nor’easters and hurricanes for over a century, and more. Lighthouse Keepers are available to answer questions.

The Lighthouse will be open to visitors Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children (ages 3-12). Rain date is Friday, Aug. 18.

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors. MAC membership is open to all.
