Cape May County will host its 2nd annual, three-day-long Coast Guard Community Festival to honor and celebrate U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) personnel and their families, and the relationship between the region and the USCG. The weekend will include a “Farewell to Captain Prestige” BBQ dinner, ship, base and harbor tours, Coast Guard-related entertainment and cultural/historical exhibits, a Mother’s Day Brunch and more! NJ State Gymnastics Championships

The United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs will hold its annual state gymnastics championship featuring over 600 athletes competing on the floor, balance beam, uneven bars and vault. Registration will be at 23rd St. and Boardwalk from 7-8:45 a.m. with race starting at 9 a.m. Ocean City High School Key Club is hosting the event in conjunction with TOMS: One For Shoes. This is a barefoot run/walk on the beach. Key Club is bringing awareness to children’s health and education by going without shoes. TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for each race participant. Registration fee includes a T-shirt and post-race refreshments. Come and find out if summer is coming early! Will the city’s relatively famous hermit crab see his shadow, thus assuring the populace that summer will arrive one week early? Martin will creep onto the Ocean City Beach beside the Music Pier. There will be lots of hoopla, including music by the world’s only Wind Chimes Band and “Some Enchanted Morning” sung by Suzanne Muldowney a.k.a. Shelley the Mermaid. Martin is 102 years old in hermit crab age, so his vital signs will be checked by Dr. Frankenstein and Nurse Perfect before he is permitted to look for his shadow in the “Circle of Truth” in the sand. Youngsters who attend will be given a miniature shell replica of Martin. This year’s event will honor the memory of Daniel Bready, a longtime supporter of Martin Z. Mollusk Day.
