“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo. Many may recognize this as the opening of Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women.” For seven times only, the award-winning East Lynne Theater Company will present “Louisa May Alcott’s Christmas,” adapted and performed by Gayle Stahlhuth. With simple gestures and a change in voice, she beautifully brings 30 characters to life. These are not readings, but fully memorized and staged performances. “Magic Flowers” takes place on Christmas Eve in Manhattan. Ethel Pahoni, an advertising copywriter, is prepared to spend another Christmas Eve alone, with the cheapest bottle of Burgundy money can buy. Ethel’s bliss is interrupted by a man selling “magic flowers” that he claims will help Ethel find love. After hemming and hawing, Ethel buys the flowers to get rid of the man. The next thing Ethel knows, Ralph Adams (the other part of Ethel’s advertising team, whom she despises) shows up at her door with a bottle of champagne. Chaos and comedy ensue. Tickets are $10.
