Join the South Jersey Triathlon Club on the beautiful Wildwood Boardwalk at Rio Grande Ave. on Saturday, Nov. 26 for the annual ‘Burn the Bird’ Boardwalk 5K Turkey Trot, your choice of a 5K run or a one mile walk/run. Prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women overall and the top three in each age group. Age groups are Under 12, 12-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.
This professionally timed run will be fun, fast and flat. All entry fees will be shared between the North Wildwood Beach Patrol and local cancer patient Nikki Carty.
The Wildwood Beach Patrol provides many programs for children and young guards, plus safe swimming beaches. Equipment is always needed and is put to good use.
Nikki Carty’s battle has been long and arduous. Diagnosed with a brain tumor, surgery for removal was just the beginning. She was unable to live at home because of the distance necessary to travel for treatment and missed the comfort of her family at the time she needed it most.
Subsequent chemotherapy made her so ill she hasn’t been able to complete the rounds prescribed. Due to prescribed steroids, Nikki developed avascular necrosis in both of her knees and a tear in her hip necessitating yet more surgery. Presently she struggles to attend classes at Atlantic Cape Community College.
We have held many runs over the years and have helped wherever and whenever we could. We hope you’ll join us. All expenses are being sponsored by a family fortunate to be blessed by their own daughter’s cancer survival.
