Get in the Christmas Spirit with Cape May Stage’s ‘One Christmas Carol’

CAPE MAY – Cape May Stage’s 2016 season comes to a close with the East Coast premiere of “One Christmas Carol” by Douglas H. Baker. With only one actor and over 35 distinct characters, this one-man tour-de-force is an intimate and spirited evening of theatre that will bring everyone in the family into the Christmas spirit! Dickens’ famous story about selfishness and selflessness is stripped down to its bare essence, forgoing the usual opulence of the holidays and focusing on what is of utmost importance during the season.

Directing “One Christmas Carol” is Roy Steinberg, award-winning director, actor and producing artistic director of Cape May Stage. Steinberg says, “This unique twist on the classic Dickens’ ghost story will charm the whole family. With only one actor and three chairs, it creates an intimate, theatrical magical experience for all.”

Taking on all 35 parts is Gary Marachek. Gary has been a full-time career actor, singer and entertainer on stage, screen and television, and in concert and commercials. He has performed in 30 countries and nearly every state, and has appeared in over 300 Equity productions. He is a 12-time award-winning actor and a published author, and just completed shooting his latest feature-length film, “Thorns For Flowers,” playing the lead detective. Gary is delighted to make his Cape May debut with Cape May Stage.

City Life News says it is “An animated, intimate evening of drama.” “One Christmas Carol” opens Friday, Nov. 25 and runs through Friday, Dec. 30. There will be a half-price senior matinee on Sunday, Nov. 27, a pay-what-you-wish matinee on Sunday, Dec. 4 and a talkback on Friday, Dec. 16 with cast and crew. The show runs Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m., with additional added performances on Dec. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m.
