Ocean Galleries welcomes the great grandson of Pierre-August Renoir for an extraordinary exhibit of impressionistic art
STONE HARBOR – This Labor Day weekend, the small seashore community of Stone Harbor, NJ plays host to the legacy of revered Master Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, when Ocean Galleries welcomes his great-grandson, Alexandre Renoir, for an extraordinary exhibition of his impressionistic paintings.
In addition to viewing his incredible artwork, guests will have a chance to witness Alexandre Renoir’s extraordinary talents as he paints during the receptions. The exhibition and the receptions are free and open to the public, with all artwork available for acquisition.
Inspired by his famous great-grandfather, Alexandre has created his own unique style of painting using impressionistic techniques. One of the most popular art forms, Impressionism dates back to the 1800s. Characterized by relatively small and thin brush strokes, Impressionism accurately depicts detail, light, and movement in a bright and vibrant manner aimed at capturing the momentary, sensory effect of a scene.
Artistically, Alexandre trained at various arts-oriented schools, including the Virginia Park School for the Artistically Gifted and the Victoria School for the Arts and Performance (Edmonton, Alberta). In addition to his formal education, he also attended classes at the Alberta Museum on Aboriginal Arts and Crafts, garnering experience in sculpture, pottery, woodworking, stone carving, commercial art, photography, and painting.
Although his collection of artwork includes several still lifes, many of Alexandre’s paintings are land and seascapes like his great-grandfather’s works. “I was fortunate to live in and travel to many beautiful places in my life – from where I grew up in the South of France, to where I currently reside in La Jolla, CA – so painting what I have seen and experienced is something that comes very naturally to me,” explains Renoir.
Alexandre’s impressive collection of artwork will include several new paintings created specifically for the Ocean Galleries exhibition, including “Sunset Cypress” and “Flowers in a Red Pot”.
“Renoir: Modern Day Impressionism” will be on display at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ) from Friday, September 4 through Monday September 7, 2015. Meet Alexandre Renoir at gallery receptions from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6. Gallery hours during the exhibit are 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM Friday through Sunday, and 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday. The exhibition and all receptions are free, with all artwork available for acquisition.
In addition to an extraordinary collection of artwork and custom-framing options, Ocean Galleries also offers a variety of hand-made crafts from local, regional, and national artists in America, such as glass, pottery, jewelry, and furniture.
