Beginning with a massive battle of the bands and ending with a first-class feast, this week at the shore is packed with lots of awesome festivities to officially welcome the month of May. Check out some of the highlights here.
Tournament of Bands Indoor Championships
Wednesday-Sunday, April 30th to May 4th
Where: Wildwoods Convention Center & the Middle Township PAC
This is an All-Chapter Championship contest for the Tournament of Bands indoor units from NJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, IN and WV. There will be a small admission fee for spectators. For more information, call (609) 849-8553 or visit http://www.njatob.org for a detailed schedule of events.
Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby Party
When: Wednesday, April 30th from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Where: Avalon Links Restaurant – 1510 North Route 9, Cape May Court House
Hearts thumping, hooves stomping and we are off to the races, at the Legal Secretaries of Cape May County for a Kentucky Derby themed Party! Join us for an evening of food, fun and a silent auction. Cost is $27 and includes hors d’oeuvres, soda, iced tea, coffee/tea.
All of the proceeds benefit the LS Scholarship which is awarded yearly to a Cape May County student majoring in paralegal studies. 4th Annual Casino Night
Friday, May 2nd from 6 to 11 p.m.
Where: Cape May Convention Hall – 714 Beach Ave, Cape May
Wild, wild, west themed casino night at Cape May Convention Hall! Gambling tables, food, live entertainment, and lots of fun! Borough-Wide Yard Sale
Saturday, May 3rd from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Wildwood Crest Borough Hall – 6101 Pacific Ave, Wildwood
Bargain hunters are encouraged to spend the day in Wildwood Crest for the 12th annual Borough-Wide Yard Sale May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature nearly 200 yard sale locations throughout the borough.
Maps featuring yard sale locations will be available beginning May 1 at the following locations: Wildwood Crest Borough Hall, 6101 Pacific Avenue; Crest Pier Recreation Center, 5800 Ocean Avenue; Joseph Von Savage Memorial Pool, 8800 New Jersey Avenue; and many local businesses. Cycling the Cape for a Cause

This is a casual bike tour & walking tour at eco-friendly locations in the Cape May countryside. It is co-sponsored by The Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May and The Kiwanis of Cape May and benefits Kiwanis Kids Programs and Chamber Community Outreach Programs. The event fee includes BBQ lunch at Lighthouse State Park, a commemorative wristband, and water bottle.
Derby Day Fun Day and Seafood Festival

Beach Plum Farm Spring Festival

5th Annual Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchant’s Association Bike Rally & Duathlon
Sunday, May 4th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchants Association will be hosting the Bike Rally and Duathlon to benefit the Merchant’s Scholarship Fund at Amanda’s Field, Route 50, Petersburg, NJ.
The Duathlon consists of a 2 mile run, 9 mile bike and a 2 mile run. The bike tour offers a 16,40 or 62 mile loop rally along with loops at Amanda’s field for children and adults. All registered participants will be eligible for wonderful prizes, including bikes. Refreshments, games and much more will provide a great time for all. ‘Feasting on History’ 14th Annual Restaurant Gala

Historic Cold Spring Village ushers in the 2014 season with its signature fundraiser, Feasting on History. The annual restaurant gala is one of the most anticipated social events of the season and a great way to commemorate New Jersey’s 350th Birthday this year. The 14th Annual Restaurant Gala will be held at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum at the Cape May Airport May 6 at 6 p.m. Over 45 of Cape May County’s favorite restaurants, wineries, and breweries, generously donate popular foods, signature dishes, wine, craft beers and desserts. Last year, nearly 800 guests enjoyed a night of food, music and networking while celebrating the mission of Historic Cold Spring Village. The presenting sponsor of Feasting on History is Sturdy Savings Bank. Additional support has been provided by the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Gaiss’ Market, Ford Scott & Associates Certified Public Accountants, and the Dog Friendly Billmae Cottage. This year’s event will also feature the first Feasting on History Silent Auction, where guests can bid on sports memorabilia, artwork, vacations, special event tickets and much more!
Tickets to Feasting on History are $75 per person, or $700 for a table of ten. Seating will only be reserved for groups of ten guests. For all other guests there will be open seating.
