Family owned and operated, Utsch’s Marina was founded 62 years ago by Ernest Utsch, Sr. and Ernest Utsch, Jr. The marina is still being operated by Ernest Utsch, Jr. and his sons Ernest Utsch, III and Charles Utsch.
The marina is located at the east end of the Cape May Canal. The facility provides dockage space for overnight or for the season. There are factory trained mechanics that can keep your boat running and they will also help get it prepared for winter storage. If you are in need of fuel, look no further because this is the place to stop and fill up. Also, you can find dockside cable TV, electric, picnic tables, brick barbeques and bicycle rentals.
Plus, there are a bunch of attractions you can check out while docked at Utsch’s Marina. The Lobster House is a nationally recognized restaurant and just adjacent from the marina. The Historic Cold Spring Village holds the Spicer Leaming House which was formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Utsch Jr. It was donated to the Historic Museum by the Utsch’s themselves. The Nature Center of Cape May is a great place for nature lovers, and on the way, you can stop at the Cape May Point Lighthouse. If you are bringing your kids along, the Zoo is not too far from the Marina and a great place to spend the day.
The marina has a tackle shop where you can find live bait such as eels and minnows and squid that is frozen. There is also a variety of rods, reels, and lures. This is a fisherman’s toy store, so stop in and see what you can find. Not only do they sell fishing gear, but you can also grab an ice-cold iced tea, ice cream, or even some fresh hot coffee to begin your trip.
Looking to spend a day on the water catching up on some fishing but don’t have a boat? Or maybe you want to go parasailing? Don’t worry because Utsch’s has charter and party boats that are available to get you where you want to go.
If you were thinking about selling your boat and would like it listed somewhere then you can contact Utsch’s Marina to have it listed on their website. Looking to buy a boat? Just go to the website to see what is listed and you might get lucky.
Check out the Gertrude M. Wagner building that opened in 2002. Here you can find private showers, a Laundromat, and lounge area. There is also a secure access that is provided to slip holders through a computerized key system. The building was a summer home for the Utsch family until they began to rent slip space. Once they began renting, the porch was turned into an office and supply store. The attic was used as an overnight spot for fisherman to lodge and the dining room was open to tired and hungry travelers. Eventually the tiny office was too small, so new buildings were added. This building is rich with history and memories for the community and family.
So make sure to stop on by to Utsch’s Marina in Cape May on Schellenger’s Landing. This is truly a fisherman’s dream destination. As they say, “Sail on in.. we’ll be waiting”.
