Lillie Gardner, who is performing in “An Evening with Amy Beach.”
World-renowned classical pianist Lillie Gardner is devoting her 2017-2018 concert season to Amy Beach, who was born 150 years ago, in 1867. Partnering with Aleathea’s Restaurant and The Bedford Inn, East Lynne Theater Company is proud to bring Dr. Gardner to Cape May for “An Evening with Amy Beach” on Monday, June 4 at 8 p.m. at Aleathea’s at The Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean St.
During her lifetime, Amy Beach (1867-1944) was well known for her keyboard skills and lush, romantic compositions. She was the first female composer to have her work performed by a major symphony orchestra and the first American composer to achieve success without the benefit of European study.
Pianist and chamber musician Lillie Gardner of St. Paul, Minn. received her Bachelor of Music degrees from New York University and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Connecticut. She has performed throughout the world in such venues as Steinway Hall, Teatro de Casa Italiana and Tenri Cultural Institute of New York.
New Jersey’s only 24-hour classical radio station, WWFM, is recording “An Evening with Amy Beach” for a future broadcast on David Osenberg’s program, “Celebrating Our Musical Community.”
After the performance, the audience is invited to meet Dr. Gardner at a reception.
Admission is $27 and ages 12 and under are free. A $2 discount is offered to all MAC members and Friends of the Cape May Music Festival. For information and reservations, visit www.eastlynnetheater.org, email eastlynneco@aol.com or phone (609) 884-5898.
