Family-friendly, Free Nature Programs at The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge

Saturdays, June 10 and 17 at 9 a.m.: Family Bird & Nature Walk

Learn about this amazing natural area, with a rare dune forest between untouched beach dunes and salt marsh. Birds (both song and shore) and butterflies are plentiful. Binoculars can be provided. Nature activities, coloring sheets and a scavenger hunt are also available for kids! These walks of approximately one mile in length last about an hour and a half, and are fun for novice and experienced birders alike.

Thursday, June 15 at 12:30 p.m.: Plein Air Painting Workshop

Join us for an outdoor Plein Air painting workshop led by artist Janet McShain. We will supply materials for your use. Weather permitting, we will sketch and paint outdoors; otherwise we will work under the covered front porch of the Visitor Center with views of the Refuge. You may wish to bring a lightweight folding chair. These workshops are suitable for beginners or experienced adult painters.

All programs start at the Visitors’ Center, located at 12001 Pacific Ave. (Ocean Drive), just west of Wildwood Crest. No pre-registration is required, but sunscreen, insect repellant and water are recommended. For more information or directions, email info@friendsofcapemayrefuge.org.
