Ocean City’s hermit-crab mascot seeks his shadow in a local version of Groundhog Day at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, on the beach at Ninth Street. Martin Z. Mollusk has successfully predicted an early summer every year for more than four decades (sometimes, of course, with the creative squinting and use of flashlights by his handlers).
Special guest will be Philadelphia Eagles long-snapper Jon Dorenbos, who was a star in the 11th season of NBC’s hit television show “America’s Got Talent.” Dorenbos impressed the world with his magic performances. Rumor has it that Dorenbos may have a special trick in hand to introduce Martin to all those who will be cheering for an early summer.
Saturday morning’s program will include musical performances and the debut of the Martin Z. Mollusk balloon, an inflated likeness of Ocean City’s beloved mascot.
Dorenbos will return to the Ocean City Music Pier at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a sold-out magic show. Fans gobbled up all tickets for the event within days of the show’s announcement in February.
