On Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 at 4 p.m., the Masterworks Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of John Bate, will present Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D. The concert will take place at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 501 E. 8th St., Ocean City.
The sunny nature of Vivaldi’s Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of Vivaldi’s music giving it an immediate and universal appeal. The text of Bach’s Magnificat in D is based on words attributed to Mary on learning both of her pregnancy and its significance to humanity. It is a fresh and exhilarating ride embodying Mary’s joy and humility given her profound task ahead.
Soloists will be Nancy Fox, soprano, Florence Moyer, alto, Rob Laird, tenor, and Robert Snodgrass, bass. John Bate, Music Director of the Masterworks Choir since 1987, has fostered the preservation of fine choral music through interesting programs and the growth and excellent reputation of the choir. The choir is comprised of volunteer singers from throughout Cape May and Atlantic counties.
A freewill offering will be collected. The church is handicapped accessible. For more information, contact John Bate at (609) 343-0033.
Come join the Masterworks Choir and Orchestra for an afternoon of joyful and beautiful music.
