America’s Oldest Seaside Resort Celebrates 200 Years with Bicentennial Music Festival and Time Capsule Burial
CAPE MAY – The 2016 summer season is coming to an unofficial end and Congress Hall is sending it out in style. America’s Oldest Seaside Resort has been celebrating its 200th birthday all summer long and this Labor Day will set the stage for yet another memorable event. On September 3, the inaugural Bicentennial Music Festival will commence on the grand lawn. Local musicians Major Thrice, 23 North, Maddie Hogan and The Bastard Sons of Captain Mey will all perform starting at 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Guests can also enjoy an all-American picnic and beer tent.
In between sets, there will be a ceremonial burial of a time capsule containing pictures and memories from Congress Hall guests, employees and former employees that reflect the history of the property. Those interested in contributing can stop by Congress Hall and drop off items in the time capsule box in the lobby, or can email pictures and memories to timecapsule@congresshall.com. In 50 years when the Big House by the Sea celebrates its 250th birthday, the capsule will be opened.
