Shakespeare at the Estate Presents Outdoor Performances of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by REV Theatre Company

REV Theatre Company returns to the Physick Estate for Shakespeare at the Estate after last summer’s very successful production of “The Comedy of Errors.” Once again, REV will offer outdoor performances of one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities. REV has presented the production in New York, Philadelphia, Scranton and throughout Connecticut to more than 8,500 people.

This production is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare and is guaranteed to appeal to every member of the family, with its potent brew of fantasy, romance and fun. This production is recommended for children of all ages.

Under a real midsummer night’s sky, love-struck mortals, stage-struck mechanicals and feuding fairies (who also sing and dance) collide one fateful night in a magical forest of lights, ladders and kiddie pools.

REV’s contemporary, updated production blends colorful costumes with urban street chic and a glam-rock punk along with athletic staging and musical numbers ranging from the 1930’s – “Makin’ Whoopee,” the 1950’s – “Mr. Sandman,” and the 1960’s – Dusty Springfield’s “I Only Want To Be With You.”

The “Stamford Advocate” wrote of the production, “It is easy to understand why no other company is capable of reinventing Shakespeare like REV,” and, “The company compels, mesmerizes and delights…an unforgettable ride”.

“Philadelphia Weekly” said, “Exhilarating and imaginative.”

“The Philadelphia Inquirer” said, “Superb.”

“The Village Voice” called it, “Delicious.”

The production is directed by Rosey Hay, Co-Artistic Director of REV Theatre Company and Co-Artistic Director of Shakespeare at the Estate. She was Assistant Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and has directed in New York, Philadelphia and regionally.

New York professional actor AEA member Rudy Caporaso (Co-Artistic Director of REV Theatre Company and Co-Artistic Director of Shakespeare at the Estate), who played the roles of twin Dromios in “The Comedy of Errors,” and has performed extensively Off Broadway, Philadelphia, regionally and in the U.K., joins British actor Mark Knight who worked for several years at the Globe Theatre in London. The cast is rounded out by young professionals (several of whom are also returning to Cape May after last year’s inaugural Physick Estate production) from Philadelphia.

Cape May local Ken Bingham is the Executive Producer for the endeavor.

Bring blankets or chairs and a picnic to enjoy before the performance!
