Your Shot in the Spotlight

While we here at “BLAST!” love to feature our favorite and most talented local bands, this week we’ve decided to leave the entertainment to you. Calling all karaoke stars! Whether you opt for a classic Madonna ballad or a more current Ke$ha hit, Cape May County offers karaoke-ers of all ages and preferred genres several opportunities to shine. Don’t have the pipes to belt out your favorite Celine Dion tune but still want your time in the limelight? No problem. I’m also here to give you the skinny on all the County hotspots where the music savvy and the just plain savvy can play to win with “Name That Tune” and “Quizzo”. Warm up your lungs and minds…here we go!

Casey’s on Third of North Wildwood is the week’s first stop on the Jersey Shore karaoke tour. Every Tuesday night, Casey’s features open-mic karaoke with DJ George from Animal House beginning at 7 p.m. Feel the rush as you put on your best show on Casey’s large stage. More of a listener? Join in the fun with Tuesday night “Name That Tune” also at Casey’s. Monday nights at Casey’s include Video Trivia with DJ Rich.

On Balls ‘N Brews Monday nights at Country Club Tavern, gear up for the Quizzo game with a $3 meatball sandwich and a $1 Coors Light draft. Winners receive great prizes. Go head-to-head with the Oceanic Hotel’s bartenders at “Are You Smarter Than A Bartender with DJ J” at the Barefoot Bar also on Monday beginning at 9 p.m. Beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, Woody’s of Wildwood features its own rounds of Quizzo. The next evening, on Two Buck Chuck Tuesday, Country Club Tavern and DJ Doof pass the mic to talented patrons as karaoke kicks off. On Tuesday, Lighthouse Pointe features Happy Hour Quizzo with Smarty Pants beginning at 5 p.m. Grab a cocktail to calm your nerves and get your game face on.

The Bay View of Wildwood Crest not only offers the island’s most breathtaking sunset views but is also home to impressive competition on Tuesday night “Video Name That Tune” beginning at 8:30 p.m. This new-age twist on classic “Name That Tune” incorporates the songs’ music videos into the game, requiring both audio and visual song expertise. On Thursdays, for the more traditional gamers, The Bay View hosts classic “Name That Tune” beginning at 9 p.m. The Bay View welcomes trivia lovers on Fridays at 9 p.m. for Quizzo with Nick an Sundays at 8:30 for Quizzo with Ava. Assemble your team and play to win!

The week’s almost over…celebrate with some songs. Mulligan’s Shore Bar & Grill of Wildwood features “Name That Tune” with Ronn E. Dee beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday night. Ring in Friday’s arrival with Thursday night “Harryoke” at the Oceanic Hotel’s Barefoot Bar. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., sing your way into the early hours of Friday morning. Start the weekend with confidence as you hit the stage at Rio Station of Rio Grande for Terry-Oke night. Beginning at 9 p.m., amateur karaoke stars take the Rio by storm in what promises to be a fun-filled Friday night. Dogtooth Bar & Grill of Wildwood also keeps the melodies rolling with its Friday night “Name That Tune” also beginning at 9 p.m. To sing or to win? The choice is yours.

Karaoke becomes a family affair at The Boiler Room’s Family Karaoke event on Sunday nights beginning at 7 p.m. Cape May’s coolest club opens its doors to vocalists of all ages and sizes. The Boiler Room karaoke show heats up becoming adults-only beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday nights. Ease into Monday morning with a game of Sunday night “Name That Tune” at Woody’s of Wildwood.
