Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron, the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA), and the Boardwalk Special Improvement District (BSID) announce the return of Friday Night Fireworks on the FREE Wildwoods beach! Fireworks will light up the sky on the Rio Grande Avenue Beach behind the famous Wildwoods sign beginning Friday, August 7 at 10 p.m., and continue every Friday night through September 4, with a rain/wind date of Sundays at 9 p.m. Wildwood and many other towns had to cancel July 4th fireworks amid the pandemic because the draw that weekend brings of large crowds, making social distancing difficult.

According to the Commissioner of Public Safety, Steve Mikulski, “We moved the show to one of our largest beaches on the island, and the Wildwoods Convention Center has parking for those who want to stay in their cars to watch the show. Anyone watching from the Boardwalk needs to maintain a safe social distance and wear masks so that we can continue the fun.”

“There is no need to crowd together at the launch site,” said Wildwood Commissioner Fitzsimons. “Onlookers are encouraged to spread out on our massive beaches or enjoy the view from balconies and decks to create the safest experience.”

Wildwood officials considered public safety and public opinion in the recent decision to finish up summer with the 25-year-old Friday night tradition.

“No one was more disappointed than we were in canceling the fireworks show. As always, myself and the Commissioners, GWTIDA and BSID pulled together to make it happen for the benefit of Five Mile Island residents, businesses, and visitors,” Byron said.

GWTIDA is proudly financing approximately $30,000 for the remainder of the annual summer-long fireworks shows.

“The fireworks are a major tourist attraction to visitors when vacationing in our resort destination. We’re so looking forward to the return of our Friday Night Fireworks and are glad to be able to provide the funding for this great attraction for our visitors,” said GWTIDA Executive Director/CFO John Siciliano.
