What to Do the First Weekend of the New Year

The holidays might be over, but the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities still has plenty of festive events to help you celebrate the New Year! Below is a list of events happening from Friday, Jan. 1 through Sunday, Jan. 3.

Jan. 1

Evening Physick Estate Tour
A 30-minute guided tour of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, decorated in authentic style for a Victorian Christmas. Includes holiday refreshments and An Old Fashioned Christmas exhibit in the Carroll Gallery.

Self-Guided Audio Tour
Experience Cape May’s Historic District at your own pace using an Acoustiguide Inform hand-held unit and map/index of 96 historic buildings.

Jan. 2

Cape May Stage: A Cape May Christmas
This world premiere family-friendly holiday production combines fireside storytelling with the holiday classics, intertwining tales of Saint Nicholas and Cape May’s historic hero Captain Mey.

Cape May Lighthouse (Co-sponsored by the Friends of Cape May Lighthouse)
Climb 199 steps in this 1859 structure to the watch gallery for a panoramic view of the Jersey Cape and Delaware Bay!

Combination Trolley/Physick Family Christmas House Tour
Combine a 45-minute Historic District Trolley Tour with a 45-minute guided tour of the 1879 Physick Estate Victorian house museum presented through the eyes of a Physick Family member in the 1890s.

Evening Yuletide Tour
A Holiday Lights Trolley Ride combined with a guided tour of the first floor rooms of the Emlen Physick Estate, authentically decorated for a Victorian Christmas. Includes refreshments and An Old Fashioned Christmas exhibit in the Carroll Gallery.

Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Ride
Hear tales of Christmas spirits presented by a member of East Lynne Theater Company as you ride through Cape May’s festively decorated streets.

Historic District Trolley Ride
A 45-minute guided tour with entertaining and enlightening stories about the nation’s oldest seaside resort and how it survived. Accessible trolley available with advance notification.

Holiday Lights Trolley Ride
Ride through Cape May’s Historic District to see festively decorated inns and homes as guides talk about Victorian Christmas decorations, lead sing-alongs and play Christmas music.

Physick Family Christmas House Tour
Step back in time to Christmas of more than 100 years ago on this living history tour of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, presented through the eyes of a Physick family member in the early 1890s.

Self-Guided Wine & Brewery Trail
What’s brewing in Cape May? Some great spirits, as you’ll find out on this tour of two of area wineries, Natali Vineyards and Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery, plus Cape May Brewing Company.

Cape May Family Treasure Hunt (Co-sponsored by Preservation New Jersey (PNJ))
An adventure for the whole family! Discover the fun of exploring Cape May and uncovering its architectural elements from a kid’s perspective. The Family Treasure Hunt packet includes a clues sheet and map that will take you on a self-guided discovery tour set to your own pace (answer sheet also included).
