The Latest Issue of Do the Shore Magazine is Here

Wipe the sweat off your brow, soldier- it’s time for another issue of Do the Shore magazine! Pick it up wherever you pick up your copy of the Herald. This year, we re-booted the magazine with better features, more photos, better print quality, and seven themed editions.

We’re in those hot, hot days, and this week’s theme, “Outdoor Recreation,” brings us to local skate parks, corn hole courts, fat waves waiting for a rider, and aboard New Jersey’s fastest marine-mammal spotting boat. Wear a helmet, you’re gonna need it.

This week’s main feature is about the Cape May Whale Watcher, a family-run business in the heart of Cape May’s marine district. These guys have restored multi-million dollar boats by hand so they can take you out to see hundreds of dolphins and the biggest mammals on earth.

Pamela Dollak interviews two of Cape May County’s best-known surfers. The waves here might be mild, but the surfers who chase big thrills are anything but.

Collin Hall, our editor, takes you into the world of skateboarding, which is far more approachable and inviting than the 90s-era of skating would have you believe. Read about how skateboarding is becoming more popular with young kids, especially girls. Later on in the magazine, read about how local skateboarding bans are harshing our vibe.

We’re back at the Zoo, this time to interview Jilly the cow. The barnyard section of the zoo has unexpected roots in the Zoo’s founding. Jilly didn’t have much to say, but her keepers sure did. Patricia Caputo takes you inside Cape May’s biggest corn hole tournament. The sport has become a shore staple, for reasons you can read about.

And hey, did you know we have a crossword? Too good to be true, I know.

This week is really busy with events. You just might make it in time for Christmas in July, which has festivities across the Cape. The Wildwoods in particular go absolutely crazy for the pseudo-holiday; check it out with our events calendar in the Herald and the magazine.

Join us in two weeks, August 8, for our next edition of Do the Shore magazine. “Arts and Culture” is the theme. We’d tell you what’ll be in it, but we haven’t written it yet! No spoilers!
