Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, the Bullbuckers have a unique sound that features a strong Caribbean undertone with Reggae and Latin flavors as well as American influences such as Motown, Philly Soul, New Orleans Funk and Rock and Roll sounds. As bass player and vocalist Kevin Tarzanin puts it, “the bottom line is about having a great time that can be very contagious.”
The group has been performing together for five years and was brought together by a love for music, performance and crafting songs. This winning combination has brought them considerable success as they have won numerous songwriting awards, the most notable being the UK Songwriting Competition and the John Lennon Songwriting Competition featuring reputable judges such as Sean Paul, Bob Weir, and Richard Niles.
The unique name of “Bullbuckers” was inspired when bassist, Kevin Tarzanin, was enjoying a lively conversation with a Jamaican bartender at new pub that opened by his grocery store. “He advised me that his mother would call him a, ‘bullbucker and a duppy conquerer’ when he was acting up. He explained that a ‘duppy’ is Patois for ghost and that a ‘bullbucker’ had no fear of what was in front of him. No fear of what lies in front or behind – The name came out of that sentiment,” explains Tarzanin.
The Bullbuckers have taken the name to heart as they have had no fear playing all over the country and taking on new challenges. From Cleveland to Maryland to New York, the Bullbuckers bring a lively show where ever they go and are making their summer debut here in Cape May County at The Crab House at Two Mile Landing.
