The town of Avalon offers a unique, small-town feel that you won’t find anywhere else. Anne McCabe, owner of the new surf boutique, The Spot, wanted to open a store that would include items that like Avalon, could not be found anywhere else.
Anne grew up in Long Island before heading to the city to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she majored in fashion merchandising. She opened The Spot during the spring of 2016 after the well-known Paper Peddler closed after over 45 years of business. Throughout the past year, she and her husband David Markle worked to create a space that is different from the rest of the stores on Seven Mile Island.
The Spot has roots to both the Jersey Shore and Los Angeles due to both cities’ renowned yet diverse beach and surf styles. The store was built by using local, reclaimed wood and garage doors to create a laid back vibe that allows customers to leave the store with a smile and a different experience that cannot be found anywhere else on the island.
The Spot specializes in men’s, women’s and children’s clothing that will meet your needs both on and off the beach, along with everything you need to hit the surf. The store uses organic cottons and well-known brands such as Patagonia, Volcom, Robert Graham and Bugatchi. Although the store carries these known brands, it also showcases brands such as Faherty, Bolt and many more that cannot be found elsewhere at the Jersey Shore. New clothes and products arrive at The Spot daily!
Anne and David have both spent many summers on the island, where the importance of community and family is valued. The Spot will have a movie night every Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. where kids, families, adults and teenagers are encouraged to stop by the store to check out a movie and the coffee bar. The Spot also features an herb garden out front where customers are welcome to take whatever they may need for their weekend at the shore.
Stop by soon and see what The Spot is all about!
