LOWER TOWNSHIP – What do you want to be when you grow up?
The Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum and the Federal Aviation Administration are partnering up to host two summer academies to help answer that question for young students.
The Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy is run in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration for serious-minded students, age 12-17. During this one-week day camp, July 10-14, 9 a.m.to 4 p.m., students are given an overview of the importance of science, technology, engineering and math skills as they relate to careers in general, commercial, military and aerospace aviation industries. Highlights include: visits to the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower and U.S. Coast Guard Base, demonstration by the Federal Air Marshal Training Center, a visit to the FAA Technical Center Labs and Drone (UAS) Presentation, and scheduled “Fly-Ins” from U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, N.J. State Police, AtlantiCare Medivac and U.S. Coast Guard.
Explorers Summer Academy is a half day camp, July 17-21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., tailored to younger students, ages 9-11, who want to start exploring the world of aviation as well as other career paths. The Explorer’s Academy will utilize the same professional staff and similar agenda from our ACE Academy to motivate younger students to start thinking about their future. Highlights include: touring the aviation museum and learn-through-play activities, demonstration of daily Cape May – Lewes Ferry operations, a visit and demonstration with U.S. Coast Guard, and a chance to see real aircraft up close.
Registration for both camps is now open to all students. Enrollment is limited. Scholarships, financial aid packages and registration information are available at www.usnasw.org.
