St. Barnabas Church Presents a Concert of Baroque Music by Local Musicians

John and Judy Curtis

Cape May County musicians John Curtis, Judy Ann Curtis and John Drechen are teaming up to present a concert of Baroque music to take place at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m.

The Curtises are a husband and wife team well known in the area for their performances. John will play a French single-manual harpsichord to accompany Judy’s soaring soprano voice in music by Bach, Handel and Purcell. They own Musikhaus Studio in Cape May Court House where they teach private piano and voice lessons.

John Drechen, band director at Lower Cape May Regional High School, is well-regarded as a trumpet player in numerous area ensembles. For this concert he will play piccolo trumpet, designed to produce the high soaring lines demanded by this music. Baroque composers utilized piccolo trumpet, harpsichord and soprano to produce especially thrilling music, and Sunday will be a rare opportunity to hear this combination live.

St. Barnabas Church, located at 13 W. Bates Ave., Villas, is pleased to offer monthly concerts to the community each winter. Admission is free, light refreshments will follow. The final concert of this season, Sunday, May 22, features David Condo, organist.
