Summer is in full swing at Historic Hangar #1! Thursday, July 12 will bring in the first installment of the FREE Summer Lecture & Film Series presented by Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum. Author John Lanza will speak about his novel, “Shot Down Over Italy,” and hold a book signing at Hangar #1, 500 Forrestal Rd. in the Cape May Airport Complex. In his thrilling debut novel, Lanza recounts tales from his uncle who was a part of a B-25 Mitchell bomber crew that was shot down over Italy in 1944. Not much was previously known about what happened to these crew members due to fear and shame. Lanza’s novel will take the reader on a journey through the thoughts and experiences of the seven member crew and how they survived after crashing in Nazi-occupied territory. This lecture is open to the public and is a free, family-friendly event. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the lecture will start at approximately 7 p.m.

Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located inside historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport. The site was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
