Sea Isle City Hosts 7th Annual Community Day

SEA ISLE CITY – On the morning of Saturday, May 21, Sea Isle City’s 7th Annual Community Day will take place at the resort’s Community Lodge, 300 JFK Boulevard, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. During Community Day, which is hosted by Mayor Leonard Desiderio, the public can speak with City officials, safely destroy personal documents, dispose of unwanted prescription medications and meet representatives from a variety of organizations. There will also be a municipal bicycle auction, an awards ceremony, face painters, free art projects for children and other family enjoyment on Community Day – including the chance to sign-up for summer recreation programs and learn about the many activities taking place in Sea Isle this year.

At 9 a.m. on May 21, City Council will hold a public meeting at City Hall, 233 JFK Boulevard. Then, Mayor Desiderio will lead the annual Community Day Bicycle Auction in the Community Lodge parking lot starting at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to bid on bicycles must pre-register on the morning of the auction, beginning at 9:30 a.m. There is no rain date for the bicycle auction.

Additionally, the Sea Isle City Police Department will offer free bicycle registrations and safety information, and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department will inspect children’s car seats and offer free children’s fingerprinting. The Sheriff’s Explorers, Dodge the Sheriff’s Horse, Eddie the Eagle and McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog will also be in attendance, and officials from the Sheriff’s Department will offer information about “Project Lifesaver,” a program created to assist people with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities. Plus, the New Jersey State Police will collect unwanted prescription drugs, Sea Isle’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps will offer free blood pressure screenings, and Sea Isle’s Flood Plain Manager will be on hand to answer questions about FEMA.

Also on Community Day, Mayor Desiderio will honor the winners of his “2016 Do the Right Thing Award,” including Sea Isle City Board of Education President Dan Tumolo, Deacon Joe Murphy of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and Tourism Volunteer Jennifer Fabrico. During the award ceremony, First Bank of Sea Isle City will distribute their annual Community Partnership Award (and a sizable check) to The Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club, the Chamber of Commerce will distribute their 2016 scholarships, and Mayor Desiderio will honor Shanna McCool, of Sea Isle City, who was recently crowned New Jersey Junior National Teenager 2016.
