RIO GRANDE – For the seventh consecutive year, Rio Station won the prestigious Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for its extensive wine list. Wine Spectator is considered to be one of the leading authorities on all things wine.
“Wine Spectator’s restaurant awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers,” says a spokesman for Wine Spectator.
Sommelier Richard Rutherford has compiled a collection that certainly meets (and exceeds) this description. His passion for wine has sent him around the world, sampling wines from each region. When he is unable to travel to a wine-producing country of interest, he has their wines brought in for careful scrutiny before making his recommendation. Argentina, Spain, France, Australia, California, Washington… the list goes on… Around the restaurant, especially when Ric is traveling, it has become almost commonplace for boxes to arrive from some obscure vineyard or even a major producer that he has had the privilege to visit – often finding a gem or two to add to the cellar. The best part is that these choice selections are available to you at your table or in the Wine Shop!
Rio Station is located just outside of the Grande Center Mall at Route 9 and 47, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night, seven days a week starting at 7:30 a.m.
