Over 1500 Athletes to Compete in Sea Isle City’s 10-Mile Island Run

SEA ISLE CITY – On Aug. 10, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) will host their 43rd Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run along Sea Isle’s Beach and Promenade. With over 1500 athletes participating each year, this event is one of the largest athletic competitions in the region.

The race will begin at 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. However, an electrical storm will necessitate postponing the run until the first evening that conditions permit.

The 10-Mile Island Run takes place on a flat, traffic-free race course that begins and ends in front of the SICBP Headquarters, located on the 44th Street Beach. The course runs along the Sea Isle City Promenade for approximately 2.5-miles, and the remaining distance takes place on the sand. Low tide occurs at 4:45 p.m. on August 10, which will allow for several hours of excellent running surface along the shoreline.

Water stations will be positioned throughout the race course, and refreshments will be served to runners at the finish line. Digital clocks will provide competitors with their time at each mile-marker. Afterwards, Compuscore Computer Services will provide race results on their website, www.compuscore.com.

Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the event’s overall top performers in numerous divisions. High quality event tee-shirts will be distributed to the first 1200 registrants.

Online pre-registration for the 10-Mile Island run is $20 per person until Aug. 6. The fee to register in person or by mail (postmarked by Aug. 2) is $25. After Aug. 2, the registration fee is $30. Online team pre-registration is $22 per person until Aug. 6. The fee for teams to register by mail (postmarked by Aug. 2) or in person is $27 per person. After July 27, the team post-registration fee is $32 per person. Entry fees are non-refundable. To register online, download a 2013 registration form, or learn more details, visit www.sicbp.com.
