Outdoors at the Shore: Cornhole

Backyard bar-b-ques, tailgates, and afternoons at the beach have many things in common, such as great friends and family, delicious food, cold beverages, and fun activities. Cornhole, also known as bean bag toss, has quickly gained popularity over the past several years. It is a game with simple equipment and easy rules to follow, making it a top choice of play at these events. You can either buy a complete cornhole set or you can create your own with supplies found around your home. All you need is two platforms (about 2ftx4ft each) with a medium sized hole (about 6in. diameter) towards the top and four bean bags per team, either singles or doubles.

Once the platforms are set up several yards across from each other, the game begins! Each side takes turns tossing the bag into the hole or on the boards to score points. Three points are earned for each bag in the hole and one point for each bag on the board. Both sides keep on tossing until one team reaches twenty-one points for the win. It is a great activity to test your accuracy and pass the afternoon away.

If you find yourself wondering what to do at your next bar-b-que, tailgate, or beach day, try out cornhole with your friends and enjoy an afternoon tossing around old memories with your bean bags!
