Opera, Pirates and Chocolate in Ocean City on Sunday, June 12

Ocean City’s Operafest International presents Opera and Chocolate, a family friendly evening of musical fun, beautiful singing and delicious desserts. They are featuring their version of the hilarious Pirates of Penzancde by Gilbert & Sullivan and of movie and Broadway fame. It is billed as a riotous romp by the sea in merry old England and of course with Pirates, there is always adventure! The performance will be held on Sunday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s United Methodist Church located at 501 E. 8th Street (corner of 8th and Central Avenues) and is followed by a reception of music and dessert.

The performance is directed by Nancy Fox of Fox Vocal Arts, teaching young vocalists since 1980 and a local treasure who has sung opera from Europe to China along with Ocean City’s own British Import, composer and painter Tony Troy. It also includes Sandy Miller’s Operafest String’s and Music Director/Conductor, Robert Snodgrass. Both Sandy and Robert are master teachers instrumental in teaching youth musical performance with the Atlantic Youth Orchestra and Youth Opera of South Jersey among their credits. The show will star a cast of a select group of dedicated and hard-working pre-teens and teens from the South Jersey shore area and guest artist Kenneth Young, formerly of New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

There is no charge for the performance, however, it is a fundraising event, so admittance is by donation of choice and all donations are tax deductible. Operafest International is a company dedicated to developing young performers and instilling lifelong values of dedication, hard work, commitment and team work to their performances. They do not charge to audition, participate or train their youth performers. However, they rely on generous audience donations to fund their programs and send select performers to Europe and other areas in North America as part of a cultural, performance-based exchange program. The group has performed in Germany each summer since 2011.

Come join the performance – the performers guarantee a great time and good food, all for a good cause! For more information on the event or how you can donate to Operafest International, please contact Nancy Fox at (609) 399-7291.
