On the Scene this Week:  Aug. 31 to Sept. 6

The nightlife at the Jersey Shore heats up when the sun goes down as the hottest local bands, DJs and musicians take the stage at your favorite shore-town bars, restaurants and clubs. Whether you’re tapping your toes to live music or joining in on games like Quizzo and Name That Tune, the fun will last all night long. Check out who’s on the scene this week in Cape May County!

Friday, Aug. 31

Sit back and unwind from the work week with Jim Asselta, performing guitar and vocals at Duffinetti’s Restaurant & Lounge in Wildwood at 6:30 p.m. Jim has explored many interests throughout his life, but has always come back to his music. He lives by the mantra “Life is Good,” and rightfully so with influences like James Taylor, Chicago, Jimmy Buffet and Jack Johnson. Come enjoy both original and cover tunes in the genres of easy listening, folk and country.

Also playing on Friday night from 7 to 11 p.m. is the popular Animal House Band at Menz Restaurant & Bar in Rio Grande. This band consists of veteran musicians who have played up and down the East Coast, gracing audiences with their dance party tunes. No era or genre is left untouched by this experienced group of players. The band covers various party dance songs from the ‘50s through today’s music, specializing in classic party rock, reggae, calypso, dance, funk, hip hop and alternative music.

Saturday, Sept. 1

Spend some time splashing around at Splash Zone in Wildwood on Saturday, then head over to the Flow House at 6 p.m. to hear the Shaun LaBoy Duo. With Shaun LaBoy on vocals, guitar and piano and Stephen Vogt on drums and percussion, this duo brings acoustic soul to the Wildwoods Boardwalk. Shaun LaBoy always had a love of music, but it became deeper when he joined his high school choir. Now, Shaun is fortunate enough to perform and share his passion with others in venues throughout South Jersey.

Later in the night you’ll find one of the Jersey Shore’s favorite DJs, DJ Denny Oh, at MudHen Brewing Co. in Wildwood at 10 p.m. DJ Denny Oh has the ability to rock a room no matter what size, playing oldies, today’s hits and everything in between. He learns the audience and plays to the crowd, so you’re guaranteed to hear one of your favorites throughout the night!

Sunday, Sept. 2

On Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m., get rocked by your doc with The Rocktologists – a cover band featuring all doctors (and one state trooper)! With influences like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and the Allman Brothers, this rock & roll band will bring big sound and a fun time to Two Mile Landing’s Sunset Stage.

Monday, Sept. 3

Get rid of those Monday blues with Marnie & Nate at Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille in Cape May from 4 to 8 p.m. Marnie & Nate are a talented and versatile acoustic duo. They play rock, blues, country and folk songs, and interpret them in a way that will leave you wanting to hear more. Marnie has a soulful, powerful voice that moves you, whether she’s singing a beautiful ballad or rockin’ a Janis Joplin classic. Nate is a fantastic guitar player who holds down great rhythm while he shines on fills and killer leads. His pitch-perfect harmonies add to their special sound.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

On Tuesday, c’mon down to the docks and watch the ferries come in as the sun goes down while listening to the sounds of Keith Hickman from 5 to 9 p.m. Performing outdoors at On The Rocks at the Cape May Ferry Terminal, Keith Hickman puts on a diverse show. He has the ability to sound like the original artist in virtually every song he performs. You will be amazed at his ability to switch from genre to genre, pleasing everybody in the crowd!

Wednesday, Sept. 5

On Wednesday evening from 7 to 11 p.m., catch the musical stylings of Maddie Hogan in the Brown Room of Congress Hall in Cape May.
