Oktoberfest at the Rio

RIO GRANDE – The area’s most authentic Oktoberfest will be held Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8 at Rio Station.

Oktoberfest at the Rio will feature home-cooked German food including German sausage, Weiner Schnitzel, potato pancakes and more. While not directly from Germany, the sausage comes from a Pennsylvanian German sausage maker who crafts his sausage in the German tradition. The potato pancakes are made by hand in Rio Station’s kitchen.

Genuine Oktoberfest beers will also be on tap. To be considered genuine Oktoberfest beer, the beer must be brewed within the city limits of Munich, Germany and have an alcohol content of at least six percent by volume. Hacker Pschorr, one of the most popular and oldest, has been brewed in Germany since 1417.

The original Oktoberfest began in 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese. The citizens were invited to join in the celebration on the fields in front of the city gates. The celebration continues each year with the festivities ending on the first Sunday in October.

Rio Station is located just outside of the Grande Center Mall at Rt. 9 & 47, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night seven days a week starting at 7:30 a.m.
