SEA ISLE CITY — Celebrate German culture during the annual Octoberfest event on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Excursion Park. Hosted by the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization, the event will feature family-friendly activities, music and food from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Octoberfest is a great shoulder season event that brings the entire family to Sea Isle City for a fun fall day,” said Barbara Steele, the event coordinator. “Families will enjoy traditional German music and cuisine while checking out the variety of craft vendors, games and more. A lot of the restaurants and shops in Sea Isle are still open as well, so it makes for a great weekend in town.”
Octoberfest will feature a variety of activities the entire family will enjoy. This fun fall festival includes authentic German music from the Philadelphia Brass Band, food and craft vendors, free hayrides on the beach, face painting and the magic of Dave Cornwell. Kids will also enjoy a variety of bounce houses.
As part of the festivities, baking enthusiasts are encouraged to enter the annual Pie Baking Contest at Braca Café. Contestants will have the opportunity to show off their best dessert pies to be judged on taste, appearance and consistency. Pies must be delivered to Braca Café between 10 and 11 a.m. Oct. 21 and judging will commence shortly after. Winners will be announced and awards distributed at approximately 1 p.m. To enter the contest, go to SeaIsleChamber.com and download the entry form. There is no entry fee. All entries must be received by Thursday, Oct. 19.
Bakers of the first, second and third place pies will each receive a trophy, donated by Dan Otto. The first place winner will also receive $100, and second and third place winners will receive gift certificates to local restaurants. Non-winning entries will be entered in a raffle for a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Following the judging, visitors will be able to taste the pies at Octoberfest. Slices of each pie will be placed in containers and sold at Excursion Park for $2.
