Memorial Day Ceremonies in Cape May County

Memorial Day is almost here – and amidst the beginning of the tourism season and all of the festivities that follow – it’s easy to forget that this is a solemn holiday of remembrance. Municipalities across the peninsula are honoring those who died in the American military: use our guide to find a ceremony or parade near you.

Avalon Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony  

Monday, May 29 at 9 a.m. 

Route information below  

American Legion Post #331 and the Borough of Avalon welcome you to attend the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.  The event will be held on Memorial Day, May 29th.  Starting at 9:00am, a parade will step off at 32nd Street and Dune Drive and proceed north to Veterans Plaza, at 21st Street and Dune Drive.  Immediately following the parade, the ceremony will be held and will feature comments from Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi and Post Commander Thomas McCullough. 

County Commissioners Memorial Day Ceremony  

Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. 

Gerald Thornton Veterans’ Cemetary, 129 Crest Haven Road, Court House 

The Cape May County Board of County Commissioners will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29 at 2 P.M. at the Gerald M. Thornton Veterans’ Cemetery. The public is invited to attend and pay their respects to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the United States while serving their Country. 

Cape May Memorial Day Remembrance 

Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.  

Soldiers and Sailors Park, Gurney Street and Columbia Avenue, Cape May 

Please join us on Monday, May 29th at Noon for the Memorial Day Remembrance and opening of Soldiers and Sailors Park, located at Gurney Street and Columbia Avenue. Immediately following the ceremony in the park, the Flotilla 82 of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will present a flower boat launch on the Gurney Street Beach to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for America. 

Memorial Day Sunset Parade 

Coast Guard Training Center Cape May – training field  

Sunday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. 

Sunset Parades are military displays of marching troops and the Coast Guard Recruit Ceremonial Drill Team. The gates to the training center will open at 6:30 p.m., and visitors are asked to be seated by 7:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to use this extra time for security screening, parking, and seating. 

Middle Township Memorial Day Parade 

Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m.  

The parade route starts at Memorial Field on Pacific Ave going to Boyd Street and ends at the American Legion Post 198. 

North Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony 

Monday, May 29 at 9:30 and 10 a.m. 

North Wildwood Veterans Monument and Hereford Inlet Lighthouse  

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the North Wildwood Veterans Monument, located at Spruce and New York Avenues at 10 a.m., hosted by the VFW Post 5941. There will also be a service earlier that morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse flagpole where the names of the VFW Post 5941 members who have deceased since last Memorial Day will be read and their service honored. 

Ocean City Memorial Day Service 

Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.  

Veteran’s Memorial Park, 5th Street and Wesley Ave 

Ocean City will honor those who died for our country with this annual service. 

Sea Isle Memorial Day Ceremony 

Monday, May 29 from 10 to 11 a.m.  

Veterans Park 26 John F Kennedy Blvd. 

Mayor Leonard Desiderio will lead Sea Isle City’s 2023 Memorial Day Ceremony, at Veterans Park, JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue. The gathering will also include members of City Council, local veterans, religious leaders and other dignitaries. 

Seaville Memorial Day Service 

Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m.  

Osprey Point, 1731 Route 9 

James Joyce, Osprey Point resident and US Army veteran, will serve as host. A flag honoring and memorializing Michael Houdart, Osprey Point resident and US Army veteran, will be presented to the community. 

Stone Harbor Fire Department Memorial Day Service 

Monday, May 29 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. 

Freedom Park, 96th Street, Adjacent to the Firehouse 

Stone Harbor Legion Memorial Day Parade 

Monday, May 29 from 12 to 12:30 p.m.   

Route below 

The parade starts at 99th Street and Third Avenue, goes North on Third Avenue to 96th Street, then East onto 96th Street to Women’s Civic Club of Stone Harbor. 

Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony 

Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.  

American Legion Post 184, 4200 Atlantic Ave 

The annual Memorial Day ceremony will take place on the front lawn of American Legion Post 184, Wildwood to honor our nation’s fallen heroes. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
