Marnie & Nate, a talented local acoustic duo, plays everything from Motown to current Country hits (The Supremes to Miranda Lambert). But classic rock and blues are the heart of their repertoire. Their major influences include The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead. One thing that the crowd really loves about them is that they always manage to make an old song sound new and do it well.
In the early 90s, Marnie spent many years in Philadelphia singing original folk rock in a duo called “The Mudpuppies.” They played many shows and collaborated on the song “Christopher’s Pocket”. Marnie then got the chance to sit in with many up and coming Philadelphia groups including John Stevens, better known as John Legend. Marnie moved to Cape May County in 1998. During a performance with The Mudpuppies, Nate joined them on stage for a few songs. Nate graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied business and guitar. He played all over the Boston music scene.
Soon after, Nate and Marnie began collaborating and became the magical duo that they are today. Marnie and Nate have been a duo for 15 years now, giving them a great vibe on stage because they know each other so well and can almost read each other’s musical minds.
The duo has a following of people who enjoy coming out to watch many of their shows each time they play, and every time the followers are never let down. Going to see live shows is refreshing, especially if the music you are listening to great and helps you relax. They really know how to capture the crowd. Marnie & Nate know exactly what the crowd wants to hear and they have a blast doing it. You know music is good when you can play a song that young kids enjoy but at the same time have an older person nodding their head to the music, smiling, expresses the duo.
If you are interested in catching a Marnie & Nate show, they will be at The Beach Shack/Rusty Nail every Tuesday from 4:30 to 9pm, The North End American Bar & Grill every Thursday from 6 to 10pm and Harpoon Henry’s every Friday from 6 to 10pm this summer. They also play a couple of times a month with their band, “Soulshine” which was born in 2011. The band is full of amazing players and they have a lot of fun when they are putting on a show. You can also find them at The Country Club Tavern, The Bayshore, or on the beach in Wildwood Crest at The Club at Diamond Beach.
The duo is fun and unique, and their love for music shines through as they perform. Come out and watch this fantastic duo take over the stage.
