Looking for a day away from sunshine and sandy beaches? Or perhaps a night out with friends or a significant other? Maybe you’re looking for something to do on a gray day at the shore? We’ve got the perfect answer: experience Cape May County’s local hops, grapes and spirits! The Jersey Cape’s local breweries, wineries and distilleries each have their own unique flare, making for a one-of-a-kind experience at each. Tour the facilities and talk to the experts to learn how beer, wine and spirits are made. Send your palate on a journey with tastings, and bring your favorite flavor home in a growler or bottle!

Mudhen Brewing Company, named after the first passenger train in Wildwood, is reflective of its industrial roots: innovative and opportunistic. In 1883, the West Jersey Railroad was created to carry passengers from Cape May Court House to Anglesea over a problematic bridge through the marshlands. Often washed out at high tide, the train nicknamed the “Mudhen,” where the train chugged its way through the streets. Years later, Mudhen serves as a place where friends and family can relax, have fun and enjoy a brew together.

Mudhen’s handcrafted brews are historic; they transport your palate from ordinary to extraordinary, arriving at complete enjoyment and destination relaxation. Some notable beers on tap include 1883 IPA, a refreshing house staple with a thoughtful balance of classic hops brewed to have you asking for repeated fills; Rising Tides Pale Ale, a crowd pleaser that highlights house favorite Amarillo hops and British pale malts with a hint of blood orange; and Holly Beach Wheat, the wheat beer you’ve been waiting for with notes of sweet orange peel and fresh ginger. Aside from these high-quality craft brews, Mudhen offers a complete menu full of flavor to pair with your cold ones. In addition to classic bar fare, the menu also highlights barbeque flavors like grilled brisket, pulled pork, smoked wings, beer brined chicken and much more.

Come visit Wildwood’s first and only brewery. With a complete brewing and distribution facility, a full-service restaurant, three bars, an outdoor patio with a fire pit, and an upstairs lounge area, there’s no experience like Mudhen! Catch live tunes on select dates, and swing by for the Cornhole Tournament every Wednesday at 8 p.m. – just show up, sign up and win. Mudhen is open from 11 a.m. for lunch, dinner, Happy Hour, late night and of course, beer!
