Joe Canal’s: One-Stop Shop

Since its grand re-opening on May 17th, Joe Canal’s Rio Grande has become the area’s preferred one-stop shop location for all wine, cheese, and complete pasta dinner needs. After undergoing a major expansion, Joe Canal’s now offers nearly twice the inventory plus even more of patrons’ favorite selections. The Captain Morgan’s section of the store – a tribute to the Captain and his perfectly spiced rum products – must truly be seen to be believed. And the Captain himself and his Morganettes were in attendance for the unveiling of the new and improved Rio Grande store, renowned for being the top seller of Captain Morgan among all Joe Canal’s locations in New Jersey.

But the biggest post-expansion buzz revolves around the stores brand new collection of DiBruno Bros. cheese spreads, aged artisan cheeses, spreads, Crostini crackers, and more. Upon entering the store, customers are immediately greeted by the expansive wine racks and a refrigerated case of these famous DiBruno Bros. products. Established in 1939 by Italian immigrant brothers Danny and Jo, DiBruno Bros. cheeses are unique treasures of the rich culture of Philadelphia’s 9th Street Italian Market and a true treat for any wine and cheese tasting. The DiBruno spreads, including Abruzze, Port Wine, and Roasted Garlic flavors, are perfect as an appetizer on crispy crackers or flat breads. A Joe Canal’s representative also recommended the Gorgonzola cheese spread served over a hot baked potato or as a topper on grilled steak as a dinner entrée. For an easy twist on classic garlic bread, opt for the DiBruno Roasted Garlic Herb spread on a slice of toasted bread.

The selection of artisan cheeses is equally promising. DiBruno’s Imported House Aged Provolone, Aged Cheddar, Aged Asiago, and numerous types of goat cheeses are also highly recommended. Joe Canal’s also now offers yet another wine and cheese essential – delicious olives. The stuffed blue cheese olives have been top sellers, but Joe Canal’s employees are also big fans of the “Sexy Olive Mix” which features assorted types. Licini meats finish off the list of appetizer must-haves, with both hot and sweet Sopressate Salami. Just a few steps away, choose from the Joe Canal’s selection of DiBruno crackers , pecans, apricots, and other flavored spreads. And in just a few steps, you have your entire first course.

For the main course, choose from the store’s collection of gourmet olive, basil, and garlic oils for the perfect preparation of your preferred Talluto’s pasta. First created by the passionate Joe Talluto in 1967, Talluto’s specialty pastas have become a Philadelphia tradition. Ravioli, the original Talluto claim to fame, cavetelli, potato and sweet potato gnocchi, tortellini, fettucine, and more of the famous pastas are all available for purchase in the newly expanded Joe Canal’s store. The lobster ravioli has been flying off the shelves and stands as a customer favorite. Talluto vodka sauce, rose sauce, and orginal tomato sauce are also available and complement these pasta choices perfectly. Best of all, Joe Canal’s line of Talluto products is currently on sale for 15% off.

While choosing the perfect wine to complete this gourmet Italian feast may prove daunting amongst Joe Canal’s massive selection, store representatives are on hand to lend a few words of advice. Joe Canal’s even sponsors its own wine tastings several times weekly. Francis Ford Coppola’s Diamond Red Blend, a new selection, pairs beautifully with grilled meats and aged cheeses. It is characterized by a velvety texture and fragrant notes of violets, spices, and toasted oak layer with rich flavors of berries, cherries, and plums. For those of a lighter palette, the Coppola Pinot Grigio is best described as crisp and bright, with green apple and pink grapefruit accents.
