Island Hopping: August 7 to August 13

Beach

Cape May County is a treasure trove of thrills, games, specialty seafood, happy hour specials, traditional family-style restaurants, beach gear, breakfast spots, sweet treats, and relaxing rituals. Yet with its 620-square-mile span, the Jersey Shore county can be quite daunting. With all the ground to cover, where should you even begin? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Island Hopping is your go-to guide for the season with our favorite places to “do the shore.” This week we’re hopping all around the county to plan your day from dusk till dawn.

Start your day by hitting the green at Laguna Oaks Golf Course in Cape May Court House. Filled with 200 acres of meadowland, willows, oak trees, ponds, and waterfalls, this 10-hole par-3 course may be the most challenging and beautiful par-3 course you will ever play. The course is pristine and beautifully laid out, with waters and other hazards presenting challenges at almost every hole to even seasoned veterans. Plus, golf is a great sport when practicing social distancing!

After golfing, go with a classic Jersey Shore treat and order lunch at Seven Mile Pies in Stone Harbor. But Seven Mile Pies doesn’t serve just your average slice. Unique specialty pies are available, such as Mango Habanero Chicken or Mac & Cheese, and other creations often make special appearances. Cheesesteaks, hoagies, sandwiches, wings, fries, and more are also available to pair with your hot slice!

For another lunch option, head to Clarke’s Sunset Market in Stone Harbor – home of the “Boss” sandwich. Choose the “Boss” or choose your own deli meats for a made to order Boar’s Head sandwich. Complete your lunch order with one of their homemade salads, or pick up local fruits and vegetables to bring home with you.

After lunch, experience the plane ride of a lifetime with Red Baron Air Tours! Operating out of Woodbine, NJ and Ocean City, NJ airports, their team of friendly pilots and staff offer private sightseeing flight excursions and flying lessons. Flights can be scheduled online before your visit, then you’ll be able to take off for a personal flight over the New Jersey shores!

For American food with Caribbean accents, head over to Jamaica Me Hungry in Wildwood Crest for dinner. Located on the Beachfront at Atlantic & Jefferson, Jamaica Me Hungry will put a little spice into your life with their unique cuisine and local seafood. If you like ribs, you must try their jerk-rubbed, hickory-smoked, flame-grilled baby back BBQ ribs. After you’re done with your meal, make sure to save room for a piece of Banana Cream Pie or Key Lime Pie!

For another dinner option, head over to Urie’s Waterfront Restaurant, which offers family-style seafood meals, all you can eat crabs, and more! They are open for outdoor seating and takeout, serving dinner at 4 p.m. daily, and lunch at 11:30 a.m. if you want to head over earlier in the day.

After dinner, head to Gorman’s Liquor Store in North Cape May so you can have a nightcap at home. Browse their fine wines, an extensive selection of hard seltzers, craft beers, and more. Take advantage of Pat’s Custom Six Packs and fill it with all your favorite craft beers just the way you like it. No matter what you’re looking for, Gorman’s is there to help!

After a long day out in Cape May County, get home safely and relax. It won’t be long before you have to start planning your next fun-filled day at the shore!
