They followed this smash with “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” and “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” both of which reached the top spot on the United States Billboard Top 100. A long list of Top 10 hits followed, including “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat,” “Silhouettes,” “Wonderful World,” “Just a Little Bit Better,” “A Must to Avoid,” “Listen People,” “Leaning on a Lamp Post,” “Dandy” and “There’s a Kind of Hush.” One of the most successful bands of the “British Invasion,” Herman’s Hermits sold over 52 million recordings, earning 14 gold singles and seven gold albums.
As the charismatic and photogenic front man for the band, Peter Noone also found success in other areas of entertainment, making hundreds of appearances on television shows ranging from “The Ed Sullivan Show” to British soap opera “Coronation Street,” and from “Laverne and Shirley” to VH1’s “My Generation.” He has also appeared on the big screen, starring in three successful MGM films: “Mrs. Brown,” “You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “Hold On!” and “When the Boys Meet the Girls.”
Noone has also made the foray into live theater, receiving rave reviews for his roles in the British productions of “Dick Wittington,” “Aladdin” and “Sinbad the Sailor.” In the 1980s, he appeared on Broadway, portraying Frederic in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance.” His exceptional performance led to a reprisal of the role at the renowned Drury Lane Theater in London, and on the musical’s national and international tours. With his band, Herman’s Hermits, Noone currently performs over 200 concerts a year, consistently playing to sold-out venues and charming multiple generations of music lovers with his talent and charm.
