Get a Glimpse of Wildwood History During Partners In Preservation’s Annual Holiday Tour

On Friday, Dec. 1, Partners In Preservation will host the sixth annual Holiday Tour of B&Bs, churches and the George F. Boyer Museum. This is a great way to start the holiday season! Each place is different and unique in its own way. Even if you have visited before, you never know what new things you’ll find. Especially at museum, where there is always something new!

At the George F. Boyer Museum, sit down and go through the many scrapbooks on entertainers, “Boardwalk history,” parks and even fires on the island. Maybe you will find your house or a family member. The First Baptist Church, one of Wildwood’s oldest churches, started as a carousel and includes beautiful woodwork and windows. The Sea Gypsy B&B is a restored Victorian with rooms, suites and apartments for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. St. Simeon’s Church started at Pacific and Maple; its beautiful stainless glass windows were moved to its new location at 2500 Central Ave., which has the oldest pipe organ in the county. The Avair House is where the old meets the new, boasting a beautiful wraparound porch to enjoy the cool evening breezes. The Candlelight Inn is another restored Victorian with many original furniture pieces yet all the modern conveniences. Inn keepers entertain on their great porch throughout the year. New on the tour this year is the North Wildwood United Methodist Church at 2nd & Central avenues, just a block away from the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse tree lighting.

Tour time is 6:30 to 9 p.m. Start your tour at any site. A $10 donation will be collected at your first site, and you will receive a wristband that’s good for all places. Children 12 and under are free. For a complete list of tour sites, visit www.wildwoodnjhistory. For more information, email partnersinpreservation@yahoo.com, or call (609) 214-2253 or (609) 729-4515.
